Path Under the Earth (Caving Route)

Strange and whimsical forms of the God Vulcan will adorn our path. We will visit several volcanic tubes or, as locals, “fire pipe”, know it true crossroads and paths beneath the Earth.

Our route will begin crossing the beautiful landscapes of the Llanos del Jable or Witches ‘ plain in El Paso, then descend along paths parallel to the casting of the volcano of San Juan (year of 1949 eruption). The route will end with a visit to the volcanic tube of glass, declared a natural landmark by UNESCO and Natural Monument of the Canarian network of protected natural spaces, that with more than 500 metres long will feel “entrails” of the Earth.

Approximate duration: 7 hours.

Starting point: Llanos de Jable (El Paso) (1,300 m).

Point of arrival: Cave of glasses (Los Llanos de Aridane) (580 m).

Distance: 9 km.



* For the safety of the hiker and for the correct development of the route, it is recommended to carry the following items: drinking water, Cap or similar, comfortable shoes, Sun protector, something to eat (dried fruits, fruit, snacks, chocolate,…), rather coat (due to the means whereby we are going to walk, it is possible to do cold or even that you drizzle) and mobile phone.

* Do not leave the trail due to the fragility of the land.

* The user of this activity must make case inevitably to the staff of the Organization, since it’s an activity where participant safety is fundamental to the realization of the same, therefore guides them specialists in speleology can decide, should thus consider it timely for the correct operation of the activity, suspend it for weather reasons or prevent the participation of any route that does not comply with the minimum security standards required for the realization of activity as the one that concerns us. * * Since part of the route runs under the ground, it is advisable to refrain to those people who suffer from some sort of claustrophobia or similar.
